We will start featuring questions that have been submitted through the “contact me” box and cover the topics so that everyone can have the information. Here’s our first “From the Mailbag” question of the week:
“Hey Calvin, I have a question. We were looking at places to retire and my husband loves Barbados. What’s the deal with permanent residency if you aren’t a citizen? Is there anything like a “green card” program such as we have here or a program like Mexico where all you have to do is show you make a certain amount of money? Thanks.”
Calvin: So you’re considering Barbados! My situation was much different than yours will be unless your significant other is from Barbados.
I only know that anyone can purchase property in Barbados but residency requirements go through Barbados Immigration, they have a website. I don’t think there is a card system but I often saw people extending their stay (or attempting to) at my many visits to the Immigration office.
It’s strange, your money in the bank and your credit score in the US doesn’t mean much here. Having a current job and paycheck does carry some weight.
